# FamilyMart + ITOCHU financial integration

## Scope

This page records FamilyMart's 2020 privatization, the documented 2021 capital tie-up, and the current payment, card, point, and ATM layers. It removes unsupported “ITOCHU Money,” “Yamada Cycle,” and cross-company data-flow claims.

Route from retail INDEX. Read with Lawson 2024 take-private, Seven & i finance, and retail financial-distribution matrix.

## Ownership and transaction chronology

ITOCHU said the purpose of the 2020 tender offer and subsequent procedures was to end the listed parent-subsidiary relationship and take FamilyMart private. Its wholly owned Retail Investment Company was the tender-offer vehicle.

Sources for the following table: ITOCHU's [2020 IR news archive and tender-offer filings](https://www.itochu.co.jp/en/ir/news/2020/index.html), its [August 2020 explanation of the privatization](https://www.itochu.co.jp/en/news/press/2020/__icsFiles/afieldfile/2020/08/13/news_20200813_en.pdf), and the [2021 capital and business tie-up release](https://www.itochu.co.jp/en/news/press/2021/210316_2.html).

| Date | Event | Bounded conclusion |
|---|---|---|
| 2020-07 | ITOCHU and Retail Investment announced the FamilyMart tender offer | The stated objective was privatization, not maintenance of the listed subsidiary relationship |
| 2020-08 | ITOCHU announced tender-offer results and subsequent squeeze-out steps | The transaction proceeded through a tender offer followed by corporate-law procedures |
| 2020 | FamilyMart was delisted after the privatization process | It ceased to be a publicly traded operating company |
| 2021-03-16 | Retail Investment transferred 4.04% of FamilyMart to The Norinchukin Bank and 0.86% to ZEN-NOH | The transfer was part of a four-party capital and business tie-up; it was not a telco joint-control structure |

The cited records support ITOCHU control and minority stakes transferred to two JA Group organizations. They do not support the previous page's claims about a Yamada retail-finance loop, Don Quijote data integration, or a unified ITOCHU consumer-finance brand.

## Current retail-finance surface

FamilyMart's current finance-adjacent surface combines an app and electronic money, a partner-issued card, accepted common points, bill payment, and ATMs. FamilyMart does not disclose a captive bank comparable to AEON Bank or Seven Bank.

Sources for the following table: FamilyMart's [FamiPay service page](https://www.family.co.jp/services/payment/famipay.html), [accepted payment-services directory](https://www.family.co.jp/services/payment.html), [2025 Famima Card release](https://www.family.co.jp/company/news_releases/2025/20250827_01.html), and [2026 Famima ATM launch](https://www.family.co.jp/company/news_releases/2026/20260601_01.html).

| Layer | Operator or partner documented publicly | Current status |
|---|---|---|
| FamiPay app / electronic money | Famima Digital One issues the electronic money and operates FamiPay-related business | Usable at FamilyMart and for specified app or external use cases under applicable terms |
| Famima Card | FamilyMart product developed with Pocket Card; JCB-branded card disclosed in the 2025 renewal | New enrollment for the renewed card began in October 2025 |
| Common points | d Point, Rakuten Point, and V Point | Customer presents one eligible point card before payment, subject to store and product exclusions |
| Bill payment | Store and in-app routes vary by bill and service | Not every payment slip or product is eligible for FamiPay |
| Famima ATM | Seven Bank supplies and operates the ATM service under the 2026 installation agreement | Rollout began 2026-06-01; it is a partner-bank infrastructure model, not a FamilyMart banking license |

## FamiPay and Famima Digital One

FamilyMart renamed UFI FUTECH as Famima Digital One in 2019 and identified the company's business as FamiPay, payment services, and related digital businesses. Current official pages identify FamiPay as electronic money and describe payment, charge, coupon, and bill-payment functions.

Sources for the following table: FamilyMart's [2019 company-renaming announcement](https://www.family.co.jp/company/news_releases/2019/20190701_01.html), [FamiPay service page](https://www.family.co.jp/services/payment/famipay.html), and [FamiPay bill-payment page](https://www.family.co.jp/famipay/payment.htm).

| Function | Publicly documented use | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Store payment | Barcode payment from the FamiPay app | Excluded products and combination-payment rules apply |
| Charge | Supported cash, bank, or card routes under current terms | Funding method availability is not uniform for every user or card |
| Bill payment | Eligible barcode bills and eligible local-tax eL-QR bills | Receipt issuance and eligible-bill rules differ between app and store |
| Points and coupons | App presents customer and campaign benefits | FamiPay benefits are distinct from d, Rakuten, and V Point programs |

## Famima Card

In 2025 FamilyMart replaced the previous Famima T Card benefit structure with Famima Card in cooperation with Pocket Card. FamilyMart's release identifies the product as JCB and states that benefits differ depending on FamiPay linkage, purchase category, and exclusions.

Sources for the following table: FamilyMart's [Famima Card renewal release](https://www.family.co.jp/company/news_releases/2025/20250827_01.html) and [Famima Card × FamiPay page](https://www.family.co.jp/services/fcard/fcard_famipay.html).

| Question | Verified answer |
|---|---|
| Partner | Pocket Card Co., Ltd. |
| Brand disclosed for the renewed card | JCB |
| Relationship with FamiPay | Card can be linked and can fund eligible FamiPay charges |
| Benefit description | Discounts or points vary by linkage, merchant, product, and transaction type |
| What not to claim | There is no documented Mastercard variant or “gold tier” in the cited renewal release |

## Financial-services strategy: launched versus planned

FamilyMart announced a financial-services strategy in September 2025 and began the Famima ATM rollout in June 2026. Its status language must be preserved.

Sources for the following status table: the [2025 Famima Money Life announcement](https://www.family.co.jp/company/news_releases/2025/20250926_03.html), the [2026 ATM contract announcement](https://www.family.co.jp/company/news_releases/2026/20260327_02.html), and the [2026 ATM launch announcement](https://www.family.co.jp/company/news_releases/2026/20260601_01.html).

| Initiative | Status by 2026-07-28 | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|
| “Famima Money Life” | FamilyMart uses the name for its developing financial-services strategy | The 2025 release initially described the name and detailed lineup as under consideration |
| Loan and pay-next-month access in FamiPay | Announced as a service-strengthening direction through Famima Digital One | Individual product provider, screening, and terms must be checked separately |
| Bank agency | FamilyMart said it would consider obtaining permission | No approval should be inferred from a planning statement |
| Famima ATM | Installation and service began on 2026-06-01 | Seven Bank is the ATM infrastructure provider; rollout is staged |
| Target ATM rollout | About 16,000 units over roughly four years, excluding specified affiliated-company stores | Target is forward-looking, not an installed count |

## Comparison boundary

| Group | Documented financial-distribution center | Ownership caution |
|---|---|---|
| FamilyMart + ITOCHU | FamiPay, partner-issued Famima Card, multi-point acceptance, and partner-operated Famima ATM | No captive bank is established by these facts |
| Seven & i / Seven Bank | ATM platform plus Seven Card and nanaco in the Seven Bank group | Seven Bank became an equity-method affiliate in 2025 |
| AEON | AEON Financial Service and AEON Bank with store and mall distribution | Full bank, card, prepaid, and agency layers are separate permissions |
| Lawson + KDDI + Mitsubishi | Lawson channel combined with KDDI services and a 50/50 ownership structure | Announced collaboration areas are not proof of every product rollout |
